obstlerTHANKS!!!

Soap on :

SoapThank you for all your work. I actually installed it from the official tree to one of my computers last night. Apart from some ugly stuff unrelated to KDE4 (java vm problems), the install went very smoothly; just one command after unmasking.

I actually synced in the short time that the ebuilds were removed from kde-testing, and before they were unmasked in the main tree.

It was a pain waiting so long, but it's worth it for good ebuilds. Hopefully, this means future versions will be less work.

Marcus D. Hanwell on :

Marcus D. HanwellYes version bumps will be very much simpler. We wanted to ensure that there would be no major changes once the KDE 4 ebuilds had been unmasked in the tree. So in future this should mean smoother transitions and much prompter version bumps again. I think the improvements were worth the wait, but I didn't want the wait to be anywhere near as long as it was.

TomThanks for all the work ! :-)

I'd love to remove the kde-testing overlay, but that would leave me without powerdevil, plasmoids and plasma-themes.
Any chance that they will enter the tree too ??

Decibels on :

DecibelsKDE4 = No Desktop Icons. Staying with 3.5.10, need my partition icons and want them on the desktop. No user choice.

Erik on :

ErikNot entirely correct. There are at least 2 way to display icons on desktop:
- Each icon is a plasmoid of its own
- Folder view. It is a plasmoid that displays contents of a folder. Set it to ~/Desktop, make it bigger ạnd arrange icons as you like. You may also want to have several folder views to keep your icons better organized, e.g. one plasmoid for network-related icons, another one for office apps etc.

As for partitions: you can always have folder quicklaunch for that.

Luca Beltrame on :

Luca BeltrameEurgh, again the "no desktop icons myth":

Decibels on :

DecibelsThanks for the link and info guys. There was something on my desktop, then it disappeared. So never got the chance to work with it and think something messed up. Also the response of 4.1.2 was rather slow compared to 3.5.10, so not sure when putting it back on again. But will remember this so can make the newer kde useable again. And yes, this isn't an old system and has a dual core with high end video card.

Just glad I had a backup, cause kept getting some blockers that already fixed, but couldn't seem to do again after removing 4.1.2. So put the backup on.

Again, thanks for the info on the desktop.

D.J. Capelis on :

D.J. CapelisLet me guess... the high-end card is an nvidia card?

If you search you'll see that there's a bunch of issues with nvidia's XRender acceleration in their drivers. There's some workarounds and the new drivers are a step in the right direction, but they aren't slated to actually improve this until their next major point release.

So... that's probably the cause of your issues. Nothing you can really do but try some of the workarounds or wait for new drivers.
